The town of Hamden is now engaged in the update of its Comprehensive Plan, which was first adopted in 1999. The Town has, to gather public input for the revised plan, recently posted an on-line Community Survey for completion by community residents and property owners. The Community Survey is open to all residents, business owners and property owners within the the Town. Interested individuals are encouraged to go on-line and complete the Community Survey by November 30, 2009. Community Surveys are also available at Town of Hamden Town Hall for individuals to pick up and complete. “We view this as an extraordinary opportunity to gather the opinions of our residents about the future of our area,” stated Supervisor WAyne Marshfield. The Community Survey is intended to solicit input from residents and those individuals who own property within the Town, who operate businesses in the Town or who may be seasonal residents or property owners, concerning their feelings about key issues facing the Town of Hamden. Specifically, the Community Survey solicits input related to residency, primary reasons for living within the Town, least and most liked aspects of Hamden, opinion on community services offered by the Town, opinion concerning land use regulations, opinion concerning future development within the Town as well as the opportunity to address any other issue or concern that the respondent has concerning the community. Agricultural issues receive special attention. The Community Survey represents a critical part of the planning process being completed by the Town. Supervisor Marshfield indicates “the Community Survey will help tell us what our constituents think about these issues and we want to hear from them. We encourage everyone to complete the survey. It’s very user-friendly and easy to do.” The results of the Community Survey will be incorporated within the Comprehensive Plan and will be used in the development of specific recommendations for the future management of Town government, the regulation of land development, the protection of agriculture and economic development.
